The range of insulation products available for roofing and general
construction is many and varied.
The most popular material and the one generally considered
being the most efficient by roofers is polyurethane (PUR), which
is available in standard roof board format or as composite panels
depending on the application required.
PUR is coloured yellow for easy identification and to avoid confusion
with PIR board (polyisocyanurate), which is coloured pink and used
in applications where more heat is likely to be
used. Once again PIR
boards are available either as roofboards
or as composite panels.
Many flat roof applications, particularly those involving mastic asphalt
will use extruded polystyrene usually available in a light blue or pink
colour, once again in standard board
format or as composite panels.
Polystyrene both in extruded form and as white beaded board (EPS) are not considered so effective as insulants but all have a particular role in the insulation of roofs and other areas of buildings.
The other main form of insulation used by roofers is glass fibre, more commonly associated with loft insulation.
A General View of Insulation
As a guide we have spotlighted the most popular products in PUR and PIR used to insulate roofs and these cover the majority of every day applications.
In almost every case similar products are available in polystyrene or as composites with glass fibre. Coleman Roofing Supplies will advise you as to the best type of insulation for your project.
